Winsome Day II

Winsome Day II evokes the warmth of a landscape at that hour when the sun’s presence can still be sensed behind the distant landforms. The coolness of the sky brings the warm colours of the foreground to life, while darker passages make the luminous, transparent layers glow. These contrasts draw the eye and invite exploration. A field in the evening light, a shoreline revealed by the tide, or a stretch of water shimmering with reflections may gradually take shape. Somewhere between dawn and dusk, each viewer may recall a familiar place or imagine one where they would like to linger.

Worked with plenty of water, the paint flows as the canvas changes position. Drips cross paths, and transparent layers allow colours to meet without fixing the landscape in place. This approach echoes the exploration within the Gratitude collection, where the movement of water and attention to each gesture create a space for contemplation.

The Abstract Landscapes collection grows out of a fascination with places encountered during travels through Quebec and British Columbia. When a landscape invites us to stop, painting becomes a way to extend that encounter and explore what makes its forms, light, and atmosphere so deeply moving.

Memories become freely interpreted impressions, where colours express both the landscape and the emotions it evokes. Among the final works in this collection, Winsome Day I and II favour flowing paint and transparent layers, bringing a new lightness to this exploration. These works invite us, in turn, to discover what fascinates us and draws us into contemplation.

Created at the same time, Winsome Day I and Winsome Day II each explore, in their own way, the freedom of colour and the movement of water within an imagined landscape.
