Stratis jaune (Stratis Yellow)
Stratis jaune (Stratis Yellow)
Stratis jaune (Stratis Yellow) does not demand attention at first glance. Behind its apparent softness lies a world of forms and presences that gradually reveals itself to those who take the time to observe it.
The work originated during a trip to the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region in 2017. Along the Mistassini River, the force of water flowing over the rocks provided the initial impulse for an exploration that continued until 2019.
At the time, Terraskin became a new avenue for exploration. Made from mineral material, this remarkably smooth paper feels cool to the touch, much like stone itself. Mounted on canvas and worked on a large scale with acrylic medium, palette knives, brushes, and water, it naturally extends the experience of encountering the rocks along the Mistassini River.
As the work evolved, the forms inspired by the rocks gradually transformed. Within the strata, fissures, and movement of the water, organic presences emerge, suggesting animals, figures, wings, or imaginary creatures. As with stones found along the shoreline, the viewer is invited to linger and allow the imagination to discover its own figures.
Gentle and luminous, Stratis jaune reveals itself gradually, like a quiet person one comes to know over time. Its signature is discreetly integrated into the composition, preserving this freedom of observation and leaving room for the discoveries of the eye.
