NOW
NOW
NOW invites us to contemplate a landscape transformed by light. The painting began with a moment along the St. Lawrence River, while waiting for the boat to Île aux Lièvres. At low tide, long grasses cover the shoreline. As the water rises, the shore changes, while a spectacular sunset lends the landscape a theatrical presence just before the boat arrives.
In the painting, red carries the intensity of that moment. Alongside the deep browns in the foreground, it holds our attention before allowing our gaze to drift toward the softness of the open water. Between this immediate strength and the calm of the horizon, NOW invites us to linger over what changes before our eyes.
The Abstract Landscapes collection grew out of a fascination with landscapes encountered during travels in Quebec and British Columbia. A horizon, a certain light or the presence of a tree invites us to pause. Painting offers a way to extend that contemplation, to revisit what first caught the eye and explore why certain forms resonate so deeply.
Memories mingle with colour and take shape in paint worked with a palette knife. Textures and scraped passages suggest landscapes, trees or gardens while leaving room for impressions. These works invite us, in turn, to discover what fascinates us and makes us want to linger.
