Lueurs sylvestres (Woodland Glimmers)

Lueurs sylvestres (Woodland Glimmers) invites the eye to follow the light as it gradually reveals the forest’s treasures. Between areas of shadow and the soft colours of morning, shapes emerge, details come into view, and the gaze finds new places to linger.

Created in 2025, the work was inspired by sunrise walks in the forest of Mont-Saint-Bruno. Through the branches, the sun offers an ever-changing spectacle. It lights a rock, brings out the moss, draws attention to a small stream, or reveals an entire miniature landscape on an old stump. Light becomes both a presence that brings the forest to life and a guide to what it holds.

Watercolour, acrylic, and pencil come together on a wood panel. Layers of watercolour are sealed with acrylic medium, then worked over again, building transparencies through which forms reveal themselves. Drawing accompanies these passages of colour: small irregular contours, fragments, and intersecting lines give the eye paths to follow, while other details blend into the atmosphere.

The work belongs to the Stratis collection through this attention to textures, junctions, and natural forms shaped by time. Details may suggest the surface of a stone, the irregularities of bark, or intertwined vegetation. From a distance, light envelops the whole; up close, the eye discovers small worlds whose outlines remain open to interpretation.

Depending on its orientation, these forms may suggest a clearing or a more mysterious passage. The discoveries invite us to drift with them, with the openness of a child who marvels and imagines beyond what is visible. Each viewer can find their own stories in whatever catches their eye.
