Fougue (Fervour)

Fougue (Fervour)

Fougue (Fervour) evokes those moments beside the St. Lawrence when the wind stirs us as much as it transforms the landscape. In Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, a windy, invigorating day provides the inspiration for the work. The waves, the clouds, and the presence of distant mountains shape this encounter, where the movement of the elements awakens a desire for self-expression.

In the painting, the textured foreground contrasts with the openness of the sky. Colours layered in transparent washes bring the forms to life, carrying their movement towards a quieter horizon. The work invites us to recall those moments by the water when the wind rises, everything stirs, and the energy of the landscape becomes our own.

The Abstract Landscapes collection grows out of a fascination with places encountered during travels through Quebec and British Columbia. Paint worked with a palette knife and brushwork transforms memories into freely interpreted impressions. Colours express both the landscape and the emotions it evokes. These works invite us, in turn, to discover what fascinates us and draws us into contemplation.

Poem written for the work:

The wind urges me on,
the waves express themselves
The distant mountains reassure me
Time, clouds, and water pass
And I,
standing on this solid ground…
stirred by the energy of this moment,
a desire to express myself awakens.
