Entre ciel et terre (Between Heaven and Earth)
Entre ciel et terre (Between Heaven and Earth)
Entre ciel et terre (Between Heaven and Earth) is a metaphor for the meeting of two worlds and for what can emerge within the space that connects them. This idea runs through several of the artist’s works, in which distinct forms move toward one another and respond to each other. The composition may even bring to mind a work by Michelangelo.
Throughout the composition, different realms brush against one another, extend into one another, and seem to communicate. Heaven, earth, and water mingle in a sweeping movement where human, animal, or plantlike figures may appear, depending on the orientation and each viewer’s imagination.
From a distance, the work reveals itself through its scale and the movement that animates its entire surface. As one moves closer, lines, filaments, transparencies, and subtle variations of colour allow new forms to emerge, inviting viewers to imagine their own stories.
The artwork can be displayed in four orientations. Each rotation transforms the forms, shifts their relationships, and opens another world to explore.
Between heaven and earth lies a world of infinite possibilities.
