Effervescence
Effervescence
Effervescence invites viewers to explore a world in motion, where rocky forms seem to shelter elusive presences and colours open pathways.
Created in 2005 in acrylic on canvas, the painting evolved through the forms that emerged during its creation. Suggestions of rocks, figures and organic shapes guided the composition, allowing a world to unfold between mineral forms and living things.
Textures and lines trace hollows, folds and contours that extend into translucent layers. A rock face may suggest a profile, a curve evoke a body or a branching form. Warm colours meet deep blues, offering places for the eye to linger and paths to follow.
In its four orientations, the forms meet in different ways and new presences may appear. The eye rediscovers the childhood pleasure of exploring unfamiliar territory: slipping between rocks, imagining a hiding place or following a character whose story has yet to be invented.
Effervescence grew from the desire to extend the pleasure of painting Aux profondeurs (Into the Depths), created the previous year. Returning to the same colours allowed a new adventure to take shape.
