Crépuscule (Dusk)

Crépuscule (Dusk) evokes the day’s final blaze, when the light seems to reach its full intensity before fading away. In this monumental work, yellows and oranges illuminate the painted matter from within, while darker passages structure the movement and open areas of depth throughout the composition.

Behind this light lies a pictorial challenge: exploring the full richness of red without diminishing its depth or intensity. A demanding colour, red can quickly become pale when mixed with white or change its nature when combined with other pigments. Cherry red, orange-red, blood red and carmine coexist here, crossed by transparent yellows that heighten the light without erasing their individual character.

From a distance, the work radiates an almost physical warmth, much like a fire. Up close, flames, foliage, petals and organic forms seem to emerge before dissolving back into the colour. Crépuscule is a work that must be experienced in person: photography cannot fully capture the variations of red, the depth of its transparencies or the many details revealed as light moves across its surface.

The work can be displayed in four orientations. With each rotation, the light shifts and the blaze transforms into a landscape, a column of fire or living matter in a state of perpetual metamorphosis.
