entre-lephemere-et-ce-qui-persiste
Entre l'éphémère et ce qui persiste (Between the Fleeting and What Endures)

Entre l’éphémère et ce qui persiste (Between the Fleeting and What Endures) invites the viewer to discover a landscape only partly revealed by mist. Denser forms emerge through the translucent layers, offering glimpses of landforms, passages, and small worlds to explore. Between what fades and what remains, the eye seeks a path.

The work began as an experiment in floral composition in 2012, then was set aside for several years. Revisited in 2026, shortly before leaving for an artist residency in the Mingan Islands, it evolved from the textures already present. A boreal environment gradually emerged, shaped by the mist over the St. Lawrence and the anticipation of a territory yet to be discovered.

Built through successive translucent layers of acrylic and pencil, the work brings old and new textures together. Some forms become more distinct, while others blend into the colour.

This meeting of a shifting atmosphere and the enduring presence of matter places the work within the Stratis collection. Fragments, strata, and junctions may suggest rocks shaped by time, while also revealing more organic forms. The warmth of pink and orange passages meets the depths of turquoise, bringing an unexpected light and vitality to this boreal world.

Each orientation offers another reading: a shoreline may take shape, a landform seem suspended, or an opening suggest a world beyond the first. The mist keeps part of the landscape to itself. The viewer is free to follow the details that catch the eye and imagine what might lie beyond them.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0736/2812/3378/files/26-2418_-_Entre_l_ephemere_et_ce_qui_persiste_2400px_IMG_4400.jpg?v=1790726357
